About
Hi, y'all! My name is Charity, and I’m so glad you’ve landed on my little piece of the World Wide Web. Welcome to From the Clinical Char!
We would be here for hours if I gave you the full rundown of who I am and how From the Clinical Char came to be, so I’ll spare you the autobiography and give you the Cliff Notes version.
I’m a 25-year-old Texan-turned-Angeleno, currently earning my Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology. It only took one class for me to fall head-over-heels in love with what I was studying, and term after term, I kept thinking about how the things I was learning about in school were too interesting, insightful, and expensive to keep to myself. And so, From the Clinical Char was born!
This blog is dedicated to bridging the gap between clinical psychology and pop psychology, proudly presenting readers with the truth the clinical side of mental health offers with the digestibility and accessibility of the pop side. I hope you glean something valuable from every post you read and then go on to share that information with a friend, a lover, the head of your HR department, an arch nemesis, your favorite neighbor, or just anyone who will listen!
Disclaimer: I do not claim to be an expert on ANYTHING, and I promise to make a very active effort only to share information that is factual/research-based. Anything else shared outside those bounds will be explicitly stated, as I don’t want my opinions to be conflated with the gospel truth.
Happy reading!
"These are a few of my favorite things..."
Jesus!
My faith is THE most important part of my identity, and it informs everything I do/say/believe. Above all, it helps me to love myself and love others as much as I believe God loves us. I guess the saying is true: you can take th girl out of the Bible Belt, but you can't take the Bible Belt out of the girl.
ohana!
I come from a big family of 10, 2 parents and 8 kids! They may drive me up a wall and know exactly which of my buttons to push, but they are some of the greatest influences in my life and I don't know who I'd be if I wasn't a part of the 6922 Krew! (pictured: everyone (so many names) sans Dad who was probably preaching and my little brother Nick who was still brewing somewhere in my Mom's ovaries)
tmj & kr!
Not to be cheese-tastic, but I didn't know what true love was until these two fellas came on the scene. I must admit that they aren't as cute and squishy now as they are in this picture, but they're at that awkward stage where they refuse to be captured on camera and I'm working with what I got. Auntie life is the best life!
theatre!
Yep, I was a theatre kid and I have 0 regrets about it. I did theatre all throughout high school and went on to get a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Performance from Baylor University in Waco, TX. I do miss performing dearly and hope to return someday - my knees and weak ankles are saying something a little different, though!
travel!
I know, I know, EVERYONE loves to travel. But because I grew up in such a big family, I didn't discover the joy that comes from scratching the wanderlust itch until I was old enough to go by myself. And now, I just can't get enough!
music!
Once again being veryyy original here, but there is something undeniable in the power that music holds. The melodies, the beats, the rhymes and rhythms, it's all so incredible that words just don't do it justice. I could never pick just one song/artist/genre to listen to on repeat, but if I had to, it'd be someone/thing from the 60's or 70's!
